We still need you!
The District Council of Peterborough is again seeking Expressions of Interest from community members interested in registering as Volunteer Tour Guides at the Steamtown Heritage Rail Centre.
We previously called for expressions of interest; however, we did not receive enough registrations to meet our needs. We are therefore reaching out again and encouraging anyone who has considered getting involved to put their hand up.
Steamtown is an important part of Peterborough’s railway history and tourism offering. Becoming a volunteer tour guide is a great opportunity to give back to our heritage and our community, meet visitors from across Australia and beyond, and help share the stories that make Peterborough unique.
What are we looking for?
You don't need to be a railway expert to register your interest. We are looking for people who are:
- Friendly and comfortable talking with visitors;
- Interested in Peterborough's history and heritage;
- Reliable and willing to be part of the Steamtown volunteer team;
- Willing to learn and share the stories of Steamtown; and
- Willing to obtain, or already hold, a current Working with Children Check (WWCC) and National Police Clearance.
Training and support will be provided to help volunteers become familiar with Steamtown and confidently conduct tours.
Whether you can help regularly or have limited availability, we would still like to hear from you.
Steamtown is part of our history, our identity and our community – but we need people to help us tell its story.
We need you!
If you have some spare time and would like to make a valuable contribution to one of Peterborough's most significant heritage attractions, please consider registering your interest.
Expressions of Interest can be submitted to the District Council of Peterborough, 2 Telford Avenue, Peterborough SA 5422, or emailed to council@peterborough.sa.gov.au.
For further information, please contact Council on (08) 8651 3566.
