Bushfire Season is Approaching – Prepare Your Property Now
With warmer weather approaching, now is the time for property owners and occupiers across the District Council of Peterborough to start preparing their properties for the upcoming bushfire season.
Council’s Fire Prevention Officer will soon commence property inspections across the district to identify potential fire hazards and ensure appropriate fire prevention works are being undertaken and maintained.
Under the Fire and Emergency Services Act 2005, property owners and occupiers have responsibilities to reduce fire hazards on their land. Taking action early can help protect your property, your neighbours and the wider community.
Prepare your property
Residents are encouraged to:
- Keep grass, weeds, leaves and other combustible material to a minimum.
- Maintain appropriate areas of reduced fuel around homes, sheds and outbuildings.
- Move wood piles and other flammable materials away from buildings.
- Remove accumulated vegetation and other potential fuel loads.
- Continue maintaining your property throughout the fire danger season.
Fire Danger Season dates for the Mid North will be advised once formally declared by the CFS.
