The District Council of Peterborough has received the Essential Services Commission of South Australia (ESCOSA) Local Government Advice report for 2026.
This report forms part of a statewide review process designed to support councils in strengthening long-term financial sustainability, governance and strategic planning. The advice recognises a number of challenges currently facing Council, including financial sustainability, asset management and resourcing pressures common to many small regional councils.
Importantly, the report also acknowledges the significant work already underway to address historical issues and improve Council’s financial and governance frameworks. Over recent months, Council has commenced a number of corrective actions including strengthening financial oversight, updating strategic planning documents, improving asset management practices and seeking external support and expertise where required.
Council is committed to transparency and continuous improvement. We will carefully consider the recommendations provided by ESCOSA and will incorporate our response and implementation actions into the upcoming Annual Business Plan. Our focus remains on ensuring the long-term sustainability of Council services, responsible financial management, and continued support for our community.
We thank our community for their ongoing support and will continue to keep residents informed as this work progresses.
