From 1st March 2021 Single-Use Plastics are prohibited from sale, supply or distribution in South Australia (exemptions apply for straws for people with a disability or health needs).

RESOLVE TO GET READY NOW

The New Year is upon us, so resolve to get ready for March 1, 2021, when single-use plastic straws, stirrers and cutlery will be prohibited from sale, supply or distribution in South Australia. These items can be replaced with reusable and compostable alternatives. Now is the time to prepare for these changes! Visit www.replacethewaste.sa.gov.au for quick tips and guidance on ordering alternatives and resources to educate staff and inform customers. A REMINDER: you should use up all single-use plastic straws, stirrers and cutlery stock before March 1, 2021. The only exception is if you decide to provide single-use plastic straws for people with a disability or health needs. Will you resolve to get ready for March 1, 2021?

TIPS ON ORDERING ALTERNATIVES

Whether you’re running a school canteen or organising a major event, now’s the time to switch from single-use plastic straws, stirrers and cutlery to sustainable alternatives.  When ordering alternatives check with your supplier that these items will comply with South Australia’s single-use plastics legislation starting on March 1, 2021.
