Peterborough is situated approximately 250km North of Adelaide in the Southern Flinders region of South Australia with an approximate population of 2000 people living in the District.
Adelaide to Peterborough (3 hours):
- Travel North out of Adelaide on Main North road
- Join A1 heading North
- Take M20 Freeway to the end where it joins the A20
- Turn off the A20 to join the A32 heading North and travel through towns Roseworthy, Tarlee, Riverton, Saddleworth to Burra
- At Burra stay on the A32 heading North to Peterborough
- At Terowie turn left to “Flinders Ranges” via Peterborough
- End at Peterborough
Burra to Peterborough (1 hour):
- Travel North out of Burra on the A32 heading to Peterborough
- At Terowie turn left to “Flinders Ranges” via Peterborough
- End at Peterborough
Port Pirie to Peterborough (1 hour 15 minutes):
- Travel East out of Port Pirie along the B89
- Turn right on to the A1 heading South
- Turn left on to the Wilkins Highway towards Gladstone/Jamestown
- At Jamestown join the B80 (RM Williams Way) heading North
- Turn right to Yongala/Peterborough on the Yongala-Mannanarie Road
- At Yongala stay left on the Yongala-Mannanarie Road to Peterborough
Port Augusta to Peterborough (1 hour 30 minutes):
- Travel South out of Port Augusta on the A1 (Princes Highway)
- Turn left on to the B56 (Main North Road) to Wilmington
- Turn right at Wilmington and continue to drive through the town heading South
- Turn left on to the B56 (Wilmington- Orroroo Road) to Orroroo
- Continue to drive through Orroroo heading South on the B80 signposted Peterborough and Jamestown
- At Black Rock turn left on to the B56 (Orroroo – Peterborough Road) to Peterborough
Broken Hill to Peterborough (3 hours 30 minutes):
- Travel West out of Broken Hill and join the A32 Barrier Highway to Peterborough
- Turn right on to B56 to Peterborough
Quorn to Peterborough (1 hour 30 minutes):
- Travel South out of Quorn along the B82 to Wilmington
- Continue South through Wilmington
- Turn left on to the B56 (Wilmington- Orroroo Road) to Orroroo
- Continue to drive through Orroroo heading South on the B80 signposted Peterborough and Jamestown
- At Black Rock turn left on to the B56 (Orroroo – Peterborough Road) to Peterborough
Hawker to Peterborough (1 hour 30 minutes):
- Travel South from Hawker on the B83 – signposted Quorn
- Turn Left on the B80 (RM Williams Way) to Orroroo
- Turn left at Orroroo main street and continue to head South on the B80 - signposted Peterborough and Jamestown
- At Black Rock turn left on to the B56 (Orroroo – Peterborough Road) to Peterborough
Buses
Port Pirie Bus Service run very reasonably priced transfers to/from Peterborough, Port Augusta and Port Pirie on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. Bookings are essential.
Yorke Peninsula Coaches run a Mid North Passenger Service between Peterborough and Adelaide (using 2 different routes, one via Burra, and one via Clare), on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. You can either purchase a ticket on the bus or at the Visitor Information Centre located at Steamtown, 7 days a week. The Bus picks up and drops off passengers at the Lions Club Park in front of the Town Carriage. Bookings are essential.
